Retired Theatre professor here, currently a member of Ithaca's premiere improv troupe, the ComedyFLOPs. We just performed at RIT's Improvamoniom, and we KILLED! At the end of our 20-minute set, we did a musical improv, and not only did the audience join in, but by the end, they were waving flashlights in time to the music. Well! I'd never had THAT sort of rock-star treatment before...most gratifying.
And as a sample of what I do offstage: I was recently at auditions for the Hangar Theater, waiting for my turn. The stage manager came out looking for the next person, and asked "Molly? Where's Molly?" Now, when the God of Comedy gives you a setup like that, it's a dishonor to him to refuse, so I said the obvious "Well...It's in Africa."
